Monday, April 25. Georgetown, DE - The The Town Council voted by a 4-0 unanimous decision to support the proposed indoor fieldhouse complex at Sandhill Fields. The town has pledged $100,000 across a 4-year period from The Great Fund.
The Georgetown Great Fund was created to support recreational activities, the arts, and educational activities that support Georgetown residents. The proposed fieldhouse, along with current amenities at Sandhill Fields, supports this mission.
The Sussex Sports Center Foundation, which is a 501c3 and operates Sandhill Fields and eventually the fieldhouse, is "very pleased and thankful by the support Georgetown Council and Mayor West have shown for this project" stated General Manager Brad Leinbach. "We look forward to the next phase of our complex and seeing even more Georgetown residents here. The ability to attract residents and tourists during the colder months will be wonderful" continued Leinbach.
Sussex County Council is will be deciding shortly on supporting this project as well. With the town of Georgetown onboard, it will difficult for them to turn their backs on the residents.
