The Grass is Greener

Updated: May 23, 2020

The progress of our fields seems secondary to what the community, and world, is experiencing. The Sandhill Fields family extends our well wishes to everyone and we hope that you are all staying safe. A special thank you and extension of our appreciation goes out to the essential workers who have been working to keep us all healthy, safe, and functioning as close to normal as we can. We will overcome this - the grass is greener on the other side.

We have been making tremendous progress at Sandhill Fields. There are a total of four fields that have Bermuda Grass growing in. The remaining four fields will be seeded shortly. All eight fields will be open for play in September.

A look towards Sandhill Road from the far west end of Sandhill Fields. A sea of yellow covers the Bermuda Grass growth.

There is beauty below the weeds. Bermuda Grass is growing.

If you have driven by the property lately you will also notice that our the posts for our entrance gate are in place, curbing has been poured, and the entrance to our walking and running trail has been cut into the woods. Our progress will become more and more visible as the physical structures are erected.

Sandhill Fields will be open from dawn to dusk to the public. A cast iron fence will secure the property when it is closed.

Entry gate posts have been planted into the ground.

The parking lot pavement and concrete for the sidewalks will be poured shortly. Preparations are currently being made.

Sandhill Fields will contain miles of walking and running trails available to the public. Here, the entrance from the playing fields is visible. More work will be completed to ensure these trails are first-class for the community.

DelDOT has also begun work on Sandhill Road and on Route 9. For many of you who travel this area, you will be pleased to know that the intersection of Sandhill Road and Route 9 will be reconfigured.

We are excited by all of the progress that is being made. Sandhill Fields is one step closer to bringing a world class park to Sussex County.

Please stay safe and remember that #thegrassisgreener on the other side of this pandemic.
